We left early in the morning, Sunday June 7th from Kappeln to Rødbyhavn. The kids and our friend Pekka left from Finland on the same day to fly to Copenhagen and from there with trains and finally a bus to the boat. We hadn't seen our children for a year, at least. That's how long had passed since June 19th.
We docked successfully alone. Handling the boat with the engine in the harbor had been Dieter's task until today. Now we had to manage it ourselves. Once one gets a handle of her character, she is surprisingly easy and nimble. However, in Rødbyhavn it felt as if the training wheels had just come off.
In Rødbyhavn Marina acquainted according to her usual manner with a couple looking at Hamu. Marina's new friend felt she recognized the boat and was clearly delighted to hear that she had previously been called Atlantik. She had sailed her with the German sailing school which owned Hamu before the Jungjohanns. We invited her to meet her old friend and told that Hamburg VII is her original name. Our new friends turned out to have impeccable taste. She said Hamburg VII was the best boat she had ever sailed.
In the evenining we got the kids and Pekka onto the boat. The second phase of the trip was ready to begin!
